Body scrubs in Myeongdong: how to pick a kiln spa and book it
Myeongdong is where many visitors get their first Korean scrub. The kiln spas there sell it as a course: sweat in a hot kiln, then a full-body scrub, often with a pack or massage after.
01
What a hanjeungmak is
A hanjeungmak is a dome-shaped kiln heated very hot. You sit inside wrapped in a cloth for a few minutes at a time, then cool down and go back in.
The Myeongdong shops pair it with a scrub. The heat softens your skin first, so the scrub works better. That is why the two come together in one course.
02
What to check before you pick a course
- What is in it: kiln time, scrub, and any extras such as a mud or cucumber pack, a hair wash or an oil massage.
- How long it takes: courses run from about an hour to two hours or more. Leave time after for a shower and a slow walk back.
- Who it is for: some shops are women only.
- Language: shops that many Japanese visitors use often have Japanese menus or staff. Check the shop page before you go.
- Your skin: if it is sensitive or sunburnt, ask for gentle pressure, and skip the scrub right before or after cosmetic treatments.
03
What it costs
A course at a private scrub shop in Seoul usually costs ₩50,000–150,000, depending on length and extras. A full-body scrub at an ordinary bathhouse costs about ₩20,000–35,000, without the kiln course and private room. Prices change, so check the shop page.

How to book
- Online ticket: some shops sell their course on KKday. You pay ahead and show the voucher at the counter.
- Directly: call the shop, or message its KakaoTalk channel. Many shops near Myeongdong take bookings this way.
- Book at least a day ahead for evenings and weekends, and arrive about ten minutes early.
- Walk-ins are sometimes possible on weekday mornings, but courses fill up.
